Can South Carolina Voters Vote Twice?

Sorry to ask this in a diary but I figure someone here will know. Q: If a South Carolina voter voted in the Republican primary yesterday, can they vote again in the Democratic primary next Saturday, January 26? I assume the answer is no. Does anyone know for sure?

that says no, but it doesn't explain what stops them from doing so.

The Republicans and Democrats are swapping lists of Indy's that vote in eachother's primary.

thanks--I have been wondering (none / 0)

about that.

The Iowa caucuses were scheduled at the same time so that people couldn't participate in both. However, David Yepsen raised the possibility that some people might have voted quickly in the GOP straw poll, then walked down the hall, re-registered, and participated in the Democratic caucus.

In a lot of precincts, the Republicans and Democrats caucused in the same building.

See if Saxby Chambliss is helping you.

I suspect that would constitute voter fraud, since states with open primaries usually require you to certify that you haven't voted in another primary during the same cycle.

Would they be able to and want to press charges against people who voted in both?

As a practical matter, yes. Many Republicans will double-dip and vote in the South Carolina primary.
